I have always been taught to follow my goals and if you put your mind to anything you can do it! I have applied this philosophy to many facets of my personal and work life. This willpower has helped me stay on track with our program at Hotze Health & Wellness Center, fulfill career goals and as of recently it has helped me complete a very big and audacious personal goal. I’d like to take some time to share an experience I had earlier this month and will stray away from my typical pharmacy talk.
This past weekend I participated in the Rocky Raccoon 50 and 100 mile trail run at Huntsville State Park. I did the 50 mile run or the “fun-run” as many of my fellow endurance runners were jokingly calling it. This is something I have wanted to do all of my life. It was a very hard, grueling task, but I put my mind to it and slowly began ticking off the miles. At no point did I want to quit, even as I heard the extreme thunderstorms rolling through at 4 a.m. before the race, or when myself and other runners were wading through thick mud and Texas clay.
I made many friends during this run, and learned a lot about respect, nature and myself. Also, the volunteers at this event reminded me a lot of my co-workers. They were compassionate, caring and would do literally anything it took to get you to the finish of the race. I ended up finishing all 50 miles in 14 hours, and 16 minutes.
This was definitely a life-changing experience and I am very glad I was able to accomplish this goal. What big, scary goals would you like to accomplish? Write them down and begin an action plan. Thank you for allowing me to take the time to share my story with you all.
